Windows 7 and Vista have a built-in system restore feature that can be used to revert your computer to the last working state. To use this feature, you must create a restore point for each of your computers. To create a restore point for Windows 7 or Vista:
- Open the Start menu and type “system Restore.”
- The system restore screen will appear.
- On the left side of the screen, click on the “Restore Point” button.
- The system restore screen will appear with a list of computers on which you can save your data.
- Click on the “Save As” button next to the “Computer Name” field and enter a name for your restored computer (for example, “My restored computer”).
- Click on the “Finish” button to save your restored computer’s data and close the system restore window.
Open up the Start Menu and right-click on “Computer”, and then select “Properties”.
This will take you into the System area of Control Panel. Click on the “System Protection” link on the left hand side.
Now select the “System Protection” tab to get to the System Restore section.
Click the “Create” button to create a new restore point. You’ll be prompted for a name, and you might want to give it a useful name that you’ll be able to easily identify later.
Click the Create button, and then the system will create the restore point.
When it’s all finished, you’ll get a message saying it’s completed successfully.
Now if your application blows up Windows, you can restore your computer using System Restore.
