In Vista, the recycle bin is a central part of the system. You can customize it to your needs by adding items to the bin, and then selecting which items to recycle. To customize the recycling process in Vista, follow these steps:

  1. Open the System Preferences program. This program is located in the System folder on your hard drive.
  2. In the System Preferences program, click on the Recycle Bin tab.
  3. In the Recycle Bin tab, you will see a list of items that are currently being recycled in Vista. The list includes both new and old items. You can add new items to the recycling bin by clicking on them, or you can select old items from the list and add them to the recycling bin.
  4. To select which items to recycle, click on one of the icons in the recycling bin window. The icons represent different options for how you want to recycle an item: manual (you must select which item you want recycled), electronic (you can choose whether to recycle paper or electronic files), or both (you can choose whether to recycle paper and electronic files).

Rename Recycle Bin – Right Click the desktop icon and select Rename from the menu.  Now type in what you want to call the icon.

Resize Recycle Bin – Right Click an open area on the desktop and select View and choose Classic, Medium, Large.

Unfortunately this method will resize all the desktop icons.  I have not discovered a way to resize only select icons … but I am looking!
