If you’re like most people, you probably use XP to do your work and play games. But there are some applications that come pre-installed with XP that you may not need or want. In this article, we’ll show you how to disable some of these applications so that they don’t start up automatically when you boot up your computer. First, open the Start menu and click on Control Panel. Under System and Security, click on the Administrative Tools tab. In the Administrative Tools window, double-click on Services. In the Services window, double-click on the Windows Update service. On the General tab, under Startup type, select Disabled. Click OK to close the Services window. Next, open the Control Panel again and under System and Security, click on Add or Remove Programs. In the Add or Remove Programs window, select Windows Update from the list of programs and click on Remove to remove it from your computer. Finally, if you want to keep any of these applications enabled but disable them from starting up automatically when you boot up your computer, open a command prompt (type cmd in Start menu search box) and type: slmgr /rearm /updatenow ..
Click on Start Run type in Control Panel and hit enter.
Now double click on Add / Remove Programs and in the resulting screen click on Add / Remove Windows Components.
