Windows Media Player is a great media player, but sometimes it won’t let you add files to your library. This can be a problem if you want to watch a movie or listen to music on your computer. Sometimes the Windows Media Player Library won’t let you add any files at all. If this happens, you can try changing some of the settings in Windows Media Player. You can change the player’s language, play back videos in widescreen mode, and set up playlists. But if that doesn’t work, or if the Windows Media Player Library still won’t let you add files to your library, you might have to fix the problem yourself. To fix this problem, first open Windows Media Player and click on the three lines in the top left corner of the window. This will show you some options for changing how Windows Media Player works. Under “Settings,” then “Player Settings,” select “Playback.” Under “Video,” select “Widescreen.” Under “Music,” select “Add Files.” Now click on the blue check mark next to “Add Files.” Now everything should work as it should in Windows Media Player. If not, try again later when there are more stable windows media player versions available.
NOTE: These steps will delete files, so you should make a backup of any of these files before you do this, especially if you have purchased music via one of the online music shops. Your music will not be deleted, just the database.
The first thing you’ll need to do is go to Control Panel \ Administrative Tools \ Services for XP and look for the services that start with “Windows Media Player”. (Make sure Media Player is closed too)
Click the stop button for each and make sure that all of the services that start with “Windows Media Player” are stopped before you continue. Next, open up an explorer window and paste in the following path into the address bar.
You’ll see a bunch of files in the folder. I’d advise moving all of these files to another directory somewhere else, but you could also delete them if you were daring enough.
Now when you restart Windows Media Player, you should be able to add music to your library again.
